At the end of October, I?m headed to Cozumel with my wife and my in-laws. While this is mostly a family get away, my father-in-law and I are looking to get a couple of dives in. Looking for any information on reputable dive operators in Cozumel and recommendations on good dive spots on the island of Cozumel.

A couple you can check out on my recommendation is: Hotel Cozumel and Resort or Reef Club Cozumel.
Both are all inclusive and good for families. The Hotel Coz is associated with a dice center right across the road (tunnel) and is top notch for service and safety. I wouldn't worry too much about choosing the reefs you visit. The have their agenda, but you will not be disappointed. Some of the dives can be deep (100') so if you are not comfortable with this tell the guides before leaving the dock. You will always have a guide with you and he is the last one on the boat. Alos be aware that this is drift diving so little effort is needed to carry you along.
The hotel and resort is really nice. Has a nice pool and good food and drink. It is but a 10-15 minute walk from town where some like to spend the evening. It's a usual tourist trap, but hey, it's somewhat interesting, too.

TheReef Club is about 18 miles farther south and fairly well secluded. I visisted there in Jan, but will be staying there later this month, so cannot comment on what's good and bad about it. It looks decent, with pool and all the amenities. The diveing should be better as it is closer to the more "in demand" reefs, such as Palancar and Columbia.

The diving has been pretty good. Viz was down to about 80' when I was there in June, but we were only a couple weeks after a hurricane. In January it was well over 100'. How good is the place really? This will be my third trip there this year.
I'm still looking for a guide that will let me go 150' deep though. So far I've only been permitted to 115'. I was kidding around and asked where the bottom was----3000'. OUCH!!!!!!!

You have a good time and look me up if you're where I'm at. I'll be with a group of about 22 from Harrisburg Scuba Center. Oct 23-30, 2005
