Last time I went to Cozumel, I rented a scooter and had a nice time zipping around the island . . . until nightfall. As soon as the sun went down I became a buffet! My feet and ankles were so swollen, they wouldn't fit in my sandals! Does anyone have a mosquito repellent they can recommend? I was using some kind of 10% DEET product and I don't think it helped in the slightest. Any suggestions?

I've been to Cozumel twice 2003 & 2004 and never had any problem with mosquitos because I use the highest concentration of deet I can find. I am definately the buffet when they are out where as my wife hardly gets any bites. Not all bug repellant is made equal so look for the item that has the highest concentration of Deet (Deep Woods Is OK)which is the only thing that has been proven to stop mosquitos. Hope this helps you.

Hi Megan,

Look at Target or Wal-Mart in the camping section for 100% DEET. Little spray bottle goes a long way. Most of your "bug sprays" contain a lower percentage of DEET (10% or less) due to toxicity in children.

Don' know about Cozumel, but in Belize, the biting flies looked at the 10% stuff as a condiment. High concentration DEET worked well to keep the bugs off.

100% DEET works like a charm, but be advised that it is neuro-toxic, should be kept away from children, and you should keep it away from mouth and eyes.

Good luck!

I have aquired a device that makes bites disapear in seconds. It's a prototype of a patent pending unit . They tell me a production model will be out soon that has a varied output for bites of wasps down to mosquitos. If you are interested, e-mail me and I will give you some contact info.
